Since 2021, we have longingly looked at the faded Art Deco beauty of the warehouse at 16-18 Railway Place - sitting forlornly amidst a changing landscape of new architecture, the level crossing removal project and the ensuing regeneration of natural spaces where the railway once cut through this urban corridor.

The dream has never faltered - we wanted to fill this space with people gathering for life’s most important rites of passage - weddings and send offs, occasions to celebrate and times to commiserate.

We imagined locals holding art exhibitions, or life drawing classes, hosting community meetings and this grand old space being a place of assembly in an increasingly fractured world.

The Vision

Collaboration

We’re well aware that surrounding our new space is a medium-high density residential area, and we have factored this into every one of our plans - our intention is to run this space predominantly in the day-time, with any outside noise being halted by 10pm and including mindful design to minimise any disruption to our neighbours.

We’re already at work clearing the rubbish and weeds, in preparation to plant a living garden, and will include a community herb garden, a pleasing array of green space, and in time, off street parking for our guests in the vacant space.

We’re also keen to hear from our neighbours about their ideas or concerns, and to create a spirit of collaboration, communication and just neighbourly good spirit and vibes!

We’re also planning to install a telephone of the wind - part art installation, part offering to the grieving, based on this world-wide phenomenon that began in Japan.
